The location was great, the area is really peaceful and there's so many fantastic mountains and views to see. The 77 loops around to Keswick and that was very convenient for such a remote feeling place. Syke farm and and the Bridge Inn are good alternatives for lunch or a meal too.
In the Borrowdale valley, this charming hotel has traditional rooms, and is surrounded by picturesque Lake District scenery. Free Wi-Fi is provided, as well as free private parking.

From the outside The Royal Oak looks like an ordinary pub, but inside it is far from ordinary. We were warmly greeted by Jason who showed us important things like where to find the heated room for drying boots etc., and also the complementary tea, coffee and delicious homemade scones.
The interiors are attractive and relaxing, the rooms comfortable, and the bathroom had a bath and a great shower.
The food is amazing, and the three course dinner menu great value. Rezina our waitress was as warm, friendly and helpful at breakfast as she had been at dinner.
We had a great stay and plan to return.
Overlooking picturesque Lake Derwentwater, the four-star Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa is set in forty acres of tranquil land with a waterfall and a lakeshore.
Set in 5 acres of woodland gardens, The Mary Mount Hotel is set on the shores of Derwentwater. With countryside views, rooms are en suite. There is also a restaurant and free WiFi throughout.
If you’re pondering this place at all, DO IT! It’s the most beautiful setting. Recently updated, it’s impeccably clean. The view from our room was something from a movie! The staff is friendly, the restaurant delicious, the made to order breakfast is included, and they even offer a snack box for you for later. We enjoyed our stay so much, our only regret is that it was just a brief stop on a road trip.
Fellow Americans, our only warning is the drive in, the road is rather precarious. Didn’t seem to bother the locals but it’s down to one lane and curvy and overall a bit nerve racking. I wouldn’t put that here as a negative toward the hotel as it has nothing to do with them but just a warning!

Beautiful location, fabulous breakfast we also had an evening meal here which was also excellent, the staff in all areas are absolutely fabulous can’t do enough for you, room very clean & spacious but for price should have put water in room, could have provided little extras such as fridge, tissues, wine glasses, bit pricey for what we got per night but felt that was due to location

Beautiful little village with stunning views and lots of walks for different abilities. A pub, a hotel and a tea room for eating out. No shop to buy essentials and nearest shop a decent drive away so would recommend bringing food with you.

Stunning scenery, walks to suit all, whether you want a nice easy walk or a tough climb, and you might get to see the elusive Red Squirrel, we caught site of one while having breakfast in the Hotel.
A walk around the lake is a must, pretty flat path all the way round suitable for all, young and old to view the majesty of the surrounding peaks and the beauty of the valley, or a walk up Haystack or High Stile for the more experienced/fitter hikers, for those amazing views.
Couldn’t fault this hotel. It’s in a stunning location and has a great beer garden where you can soak up the scenery while enjoying a pint and a meal. The food was delicious and the staff couldn’t have been more lovely. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and very quiet. As well an amazing cooked breakfast the next day they also gave us snack boxes to take for our onward journey which was a lovely touch. Highly recommend.
Staff extremely friendly and offered me directions for my planned walking routes the next day. Big building with self catering facilities, plenty of loos and showers.
Food (dinner and breakfast) was very nice and in line with other YHA hostels I’ve stayed at.
Big spacious lounge with superb views. Good location for hiking.
Lovely hotel with delightful elegantly furnished room. Clean bathroom with good shower. Very pleasant helpful staff. Excellent full English breakfast. The bar area has character, good ales and decent evening meals.
Great value "Muddy Boots" midweek deal. Wifi was good. Plenty of free car parking. Great walks from front door
Buttermere YHA is a traditional youth hostel and ideal for those who love the spectacular scenery and proximity of the fells and lakes. I particularly like the fact that is always attracts people with a genuine appreciation of the area and love of walking.
All the staff were friendly and helpful.
This was my 40th wedding anniversary. We stayed at the Bridge Hotel on our honeymoon. The hotel has been modernized but the front entrance looks the same. It has a special place in our hearts.
Food was great. The bathroom and room renovations are really wonderful. It was well worth the return trip.
